Late last year we needed to get a flyer for a conference and a trade fair designed. We tried Fiverr. For those who don’t know it, Fiverr is the world’s largest online marketplace for freelance services, beginning at a cost of $5 per job performed, from which it gets its name. The result was kind of OK, but not good enough to be used. So I forgot about it until a day in April when I received this to my personal email:

You can install the Kantu macro recorder for Firefox directly from the Firefox Add-ons website:

The Firefox version has all features of the Chrome version and of course you can reuse all your Chrome macros in the Firefox version.

Selenium IDE rises like a phoenix from the ashes

UPDATE May 2020: It seems the (Applitools sponsored) Selenium IDE is no longer maintained? While we have no insider knowledge, users tell us that tickets in the official Github repo remain unanswered.

2018 will be was the year when the Selenium IDE rises has risen like a phoenix from the ashes… of the legacy Firefox add-ons.

It all started in early August 2017 when we lauchned the Kantu Selenium IDE to implement a modern Selenium IDE for Chrome. Then in late August a computer science group from a Taiwanese University released the Sideex IDE for Chrome. And in September the Selenium core team announced that they as well will implement an update of the original Selenium IDE for Firefox, which - you might remember - stopped working last year as the new Firefox Quantum extension system no longer supports legacy addons. And just before the year ended a company called Katalon released yet another Selenium IDE, an expanded and rebranded version of Sideex.

Tools we use: Easy and Free Screen recording tools

Today we look at automation from a different angle. It is the start of a new series that covers the “tools we use”. This post is about our favorite screen recording (“screencasting”) tools. The term screencast compares with the related term screenshot; whereas screenshot generates a single picture of a computer screen, a screencast is essentially a movie of the changes over time that a user sees on a computer screen, often enhanced with audio narration.

Screen recorders are handy tools used to record the computer’s screen, i.e. record the ongoing activities on the screen. The more advanced tools do provide live-capture enhancements, post-capture video editing options and more.
